Hardwood Flooring

NATURAL. ELEGANCE. TIMELESS.

Why Consider Hardwood

Aside from their beauty, a great benefit to installing hardwood floors is they can be repaired and refinished. Scratches and dents happen. Especially in high traffic areas. But often, they can simply be sanded and refinished without needing to be replaced. There are two types of hardwood:

Solid Hardwood Flooring

As you would expect, solid hardwood flooring is made of solid wood. Each board is made from a single piece of hardwood which is about 3/4” (18-20mm) thick and is usually fit together using a tounge-and-groove system. The durability of the wood depends on the species.

Here are some benefits of hardwood flooring:

  • Add value to the property
  • Can usually be repaired or refinished when dented or damaged
  • Solid hardwood outlasts other floors

Reasons to avoid hardwood flooring

  • It expands in damp conditions and shrinks in dry ones so humidity levels must be monitored and maintained properly
  • Can be a higher cost for more basic grade products.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring

While engineered hardwood flooring is made of 100% real wood, it is built using a multi-layered construction. That gives it more stability to withstand changing temperatures. This makes it a great solution for kitchens, rooms with log burning stoves, or other places where humidity changes. While solid wood needs to be nailed down to a plywood subfloor, engineered wood can be stapled or glued over wood or concrete or even installed as a “floating” system where planks are locked together and installed over an underlayment material.

Here are some benefits of hardwood flooring:

  • Generally less expensive than solid hardwood
  • Easy to maintain and is resilient and durable
  • More environmentally friendly (uses less of the tree species)

Reasons to avoid hardwood flooring

  • Can fade and there’s a limit to how many times you can refinish
  • They still require care and should not be steam cleaned
  • Most wood options are susceptible to water damage. Although there are waterproof engineered wood options that can be safely installed in basements and bathrooms.

We offer Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Bring your hardwood floors back to life with Premier Flooring Installation’s professional hardwood floor refinishing services.

If your floors are looking dull, scratched, or worn down from years of use, refinishing is a cost-effective way to restore their natural beauty and shine—without the need for a full replacement.

Our process starts with a free in-home consultation to assess your floors, discuss your goals, and review stain and finish options. Once you’re ready to move forward, we carefully prep the space by moving furniture and protecting surrounding areas. We then sand down the old finish and surface imperfections, revealing fresh wood underneath. If you’d like a new look, we can apply a custom stain before sealing the floors with a durable finish in your choice of sheen—matte, satin, semi-gloss, or gloss. After a thorough cleanup, we complete a final walkthrough with you to ensure you’re completely satisfied with the results.
